Got referred to an ENT and im waiting to go in for my apt. I just want my nose straightened back to how it was.. Will a septoplasty do this? or will i have to get a rhinoplasty from a plastic surgeon. My insurance only covers a few ENTs and they barely have reviews online. Is it an Easy procedure?
Answer: Broken Nose Treatment Hi Dud,Those are the breaks! If your nose was broken within the last 10 days, a closed nasal reduction under local anesthesia in the office can straighten the nasal bones without formal surgery. Once it has been over two weeks since your trauma, then it is usually necessary to rebreak the nasal bones to straighten them. Choose your treating physician most carefully. Good luck and be well.Dr. P

Answer: Broke my nose and it's now crooked. I'm scared and worried. What can I do? Dear dudderstudYou should wait to see your new doctor before being nervous and worried. I am certain your doctor will share their level of comfort with you. In general, most ENT specialists can improve your breathing and reduce a nasal fracture. If your lower nasal third (tip area) is shifted, go to a subspecialist (either plastics or facial plastics), if its only septum and just bones, and your ENT says they are comfortable with that, you are in good shape. In these cases, deviated tips and lower third of nose are difficult to bring back to midline, the rest is usually routine. sharing photos can get you more case specific advice.

Answer: Rhinoplasty for broken nose, septoplasty for breathing Look for a surgeon who has dedicated a significant component of their practice to the field of rhinoplasty, since repairing a crooked and broken nose rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult procedures to perform in the entire field of cosmetic surgery. A double board-certified ENT/ facial plastic surgeon in your area should have extensive experience with these type of cosmetic and functional issues.

Answer: Fixing a broken nose Thanks for your question. Sorry that you broke your nose.Every broken nose is different. You need to be evaluated before anyone can give you a specific recommendation. It may be a good idea to look for an ENT who did a fellowship in facial plastic surgery or is a member of the AAFPRS. In general, a broken nose can be corrected between day 3-10 with a closed (incisionless) procedure. This works if the bones are broken and the septum (wall between the right and left nasal passages) is relatively straight. If the entire nose and septum is crooked, a closed reduction can be attempted, though has a high need for a second procedure. Most will advise you to wait 3 months for bones to set before attempting an open procedure so that there is a stable foundation from which to create surgical change.Very best of luck.
