Can Botox be used to lower eyebrows?

Thank you for your question regarding Botox and eyebrows. Botox is a chemical that causes paralysis. Paralyzing muscles cause wrinkles to disappear. There are muscles throughout the face that cause facial animation. There are several muscles that cause the brows to elevate. Also, there are muscles that cause the brows to depress. There are also intricate muscles and muscles combinations that cause the eyebrows to have a multitude of other expressions. Since there are specific muscles that cause muscle elevation, they can easily be targeted by Botox. By targeting and paralyzing the muscle that elevate the eyebrows, Botox can cause eyebrow depression. Please be careful with your selected provider. You should consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive Botox experience. Often, eyebrow depression is an unwanted side effect of Botox injection in the forehead. What happens is that Botox is accidentally injected too low on the forehead and causes brow ptosis or depression of the eyebrow. Again, this is usually an unwanted effect. The frontalis muscle is responsible for lifting the brows. A little Botox in that muscle will relax it enough that the brow would drop slightly. It will take an expert hand to do this well. Please consult a board-certified dermatologist who has many years’ experience with Botox to get beautiful and pleasing results.

Yes, you can use Botox to lower the eyebrow. A small amount (about 2-3 units) can be placed above the over-arched brow to create symmetry. 

Botox lasts about 3-4 months on the ave. and can help either raise or lower eyebrows but does it only half the time.

Hi Vanessa. The answer is yes.  Although it's not a standard treatment, good injectors will use a a small amount of product to relax the muscles pulling upward on the brow to relax them and even out the two sides.  It's a simple procedure, the key is getting the number of units right to make the appearance symmetrical.   

Yes botox can be used to help relax the muscle that lift the eye brows and eventually make them look the way you want. Its has to be a very specific dose and area of injection because little change can actually droop the eye lid too much. Good luck.

While it is more common for Botox to be used to raise eyebrows in order to give a patient the appearance of a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance, it can be used to lower eyebrows as well.  I would recommend you seek an experienced board certified physician who is skilled with the indication you are seeking.Best of luck,Dr. Philip Solomon, Solomon Facial Plastic
