Can betadine/iodine solution dissolve filler?

Hi liliruss.  We can't think of any reason why your injector would propose this option.  Hyaluronidase is the accepted method for dissolving Hyaluoric acid based products like Restylane and Juvederm.  We are not aware that other options will work and would not suggest them. 

No, the best way to dissolve filler is with hyaluronidase. It will take a series of treatments. I recommend following up with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

thank you for your question. The injectors statement about iodine dissolving the filler does not make sense to me. Iodine does not dissolve fillers. It is used to sterilize skin. It also should not be effective in removing water from the area. I would strongly recommend seeing an oculoplastic surgeon for a consultation. I doubt that you need surgery, however, it sounds like you need somebody who is experienced with the anatomy and chemistry of fillers. Best of luck!

I don't think that betadine will do anything other than make your skin look yellow/orange for a while. I have never heard of this as a way to dissolve filler and do not know how it would get to the filler if applied topically

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately that makes no scientific sense. For fillers that are comprised of hyaluronic acid, a very specific enzyme, hyaluronidase, can be used to help dissolve these specific types of fillers. Iodine based solutions such as Betadine have no effect on fillers -- and they are potentially toxic if injected anywhere in the human body. Iodine also does not "dissolve organisms". Please make sure you are only being treated by a board-certified MD with specific expertise in facial fillers and facial anatomy. Avoid nurses, non-doctors, and "specials." I might also point out as an expert in eyelid surgery that the area around the eye is very delicate and requires great precision regarding fillers and/or filler reversal. Good luck!

Hi, and thanks for your question. I would personally only use Hylenex (hyaluronidase) to dissolve any fillers. I have never heard of using iodine/betadine for this purpose. I would advise seeing a well-credentialed doctor who can help you. Best of luck!

I am not aware of any study that shows that betadine/iodine dissolves filler. Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that is used to dissolved HA based fillers. 

Never heard of that one.  Traditional dissolution with hyaluronidase is recommended if there is excess filler in a given area.  It is safe and reliable.

Hi. Thank you for your question. I am not aware of betadine use to dissolve filler or to extract water from the skin. I would ask your plastic surgeon/ dermatologist/ injector for evidence supporting these claims. 

I am not aware that iodine solution can dissolve fillers that has been injected into the subcutaneous space. You may want to ask your injector to provide you with a study that it does.
