How can I balance a nasolabial fold that is deeper on one side and make it less noticeable? (Photo)

Question

Any suggestions on how to get rid of persistent nasalabial lines? One side seems so much deeper than the other. I don't want to be rid of them completely- I just want my one side to be more like my less noticeable side. I have had fillers in the past- only Juverderm and never more than 1 syringe between the two of them. Am I just not getting enough or do I need a "thicker" filler? I have also gotten cheek fillers and they did absolutely nothing to lift my fold. Am I a lost cause as far as symmetry goes?

There are a lot of options for improving the nasolabial folds and this often means fillers for the folds themselves but also lifting around the mouth and cheeks to build underlying anatomical support. Dear 6735anon,an examination would provide a lot of details but generally speaking, dermal fillers are a great option for nasolabial folds. Fillers can balance your asymmetry. You should know that it is not a permanent solution and the effects of fillers will disappear after a few months. We are all asymmetrical to some degree.  Fillers are a great tool to address and improve this concern.  HA fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane can be used to balance your contours a bit more.  The great thing about fillers is that you can go slowly and build up to the look you are wanting.  Visit with an expert injector to discuss your concerns.  An adjunct tool to fillers is Morpheus8 which combines RF technology with microneedling to improve overall skin tone and texture and can optimize your look.

Hello - thank you for the picture and your question.  Of course it is best to be evaluated in person; however, I believe that fillers in conjunction with laser treatments will lift and tighten the skin.  You are not at a lost.

Most of us have some natural asymmetries in our faces, so this is normal! However, dermal fillers are a great option to correct facial asymmetries to give a more "balanced" appearance. A skilled injector will asses your concerns during the consultation and inject the appropriate amount on each side to achieve a more symmetrical appearance. This can mean injecting more product on one side vs. the other. There are several new fillers on the market, including Restylane Refyne and Defyne and also Juvederm Vollure, that I am seeing excellent results in treating nasolabial folds. Good luck!

Fillers are an excellent option for treating prominent or asymmetric nasolabial folds. Fillers to the cheek may soften the nasolabial folds to some extent, but often times, the nasolabial folds need to be injected as well. Juvederm is a great option for treating this area, in addition to some other fillers such as Restylane. A proper physical exam by a facial plastic surgeon who is experienced with filler injections is necessary in order to determine the best treatment option for you.
