For the typical Asian Rhinoplasty patient with a low nose bridge, what is considered a high amount of augmentation? Is 4mm of augmentation considered too aggressive and would the result look unnatural? I understand it depends on one's individual anatomy, but what is the general consensus on what's considered a moderate or high amount of augmentation for an Asian nose?
Answer: Depends on the individual of course, but here are some average heights for Asian rhinoplasty Based on about 2000 Asian rhinoplasties:Northeastern Asians: most commonly 2.5mm Southeastern Asians: 3.5mm80% fall within 1mm or so from this. The presized nasal implants generally range from 1.5mm - 4mm. So you get some idea of what the manufacturers find as the most commonly requested sizes. With the use of all natural tissues, augmentation is more differential. The lowest part of the nose is between the eyes and this is where most of the augmentation is done. The area just above the nasal tip is not augmented much (silastic implants, especially the L shaped ones, tend to be too tall in this area)

Answer: Asian Rhinoplasty The amount of nasal bridge augmentation for Asian patients is determined by the proportions of the other features of your nose and face. The height needs to be balanced and natural appearing with the rest of your face. Please consult with a board certified specialist who can assist you with achieving the results you seek. 3-dimensional computer imaging can help you visualize what you may look like after surgery and serve as an important communication tool with your surgeon.

Answer: Rhinoplasty augmentation is not measured in millimeters, it is how it looks. Dear mfan17 in Los Angeles: In rhinoplasty the outcomes are not judged by millimeters but rather by appearance. It is very difficult to tell you what would be a proper and natural look without being seen. You are correct that it depends on the individual anatomy. The most important thing that you should do is study the subject of Asian rhinoplasty by looking at websites that are rich in photographs. Then, read some books. You should go for consultation armed with questions and bring a friend or relative, because at consultation the single most important feature, which is essential, is computer imaging. You need to see the surgeon’s image of the outcome and be comfortable with it. Spend time at the consultation, make sure your questions are answered. It is very important that the nose look natura. In Asian rhinoplasty implants, whether cartilage or silicone plastic, can be used. Consider permanent nonsurgical rhinoplasty. Many Asian patients have availed themselves of that in Asia and it is also available here in the United States. Best wishes, Robert Kotler, MD, FACS Over 4,500 nasal procedures performed

Answer: How Many Millimeters of Bridge Augmentation is Appropriate in Asian Rhinoplasty? How many millimeters of of bridge augmentation is appropriate in Asian rhinoplasty? The amount of augmentation of the bridge depends on the patient's pre-operative appearance. The goal is a natural result that is proportional to that individual's surrounding anatomy. An experienced surgeon will not pay any attention to what is considered a "moderate" augmentation but what each patient needs. In all these years I've never done 2 noses exactly the same.
