Why is an alar plasty and I’m a good candidate? I don’t want the typical Asian nose job that looks over done and the tip super accentuated that it looks like an upside down T

Alar base modification alone will address the width and flare of your nostrils, but may distort the proportions of your nose by drawing more attention to the bulbosity of the tip of your nose. A combination of subtle changes to the nostril width in addition to the tip and bridge of your nose can help you to achieve a nice improvement without looking dramatically different. The most important factor in achieving a beautiful result is finding the right surgeon. Finding rhinoplasty specialists experienced in Asian rhinoplasty is the first step. After this, consult with 2-3 of these surgeons in person and determine your comfort level with their approach, demeanor, and before and after results.

An alar plasty is a procedure to shape your nostrils.  I think it is best to see a surgeon and discuss exactly what you are afraid of and what you are trying to achieve.  Computer imaging may help you see what an alar plasty alone would do.  In most cases we would recommend and full rhinoplasty to keep  your nose in balance.

Alarplasty usually refers to any surgery or procedure involving the alae--including repositioning or reshaping the alae/nostrils.  Alar base reduction refers to narrowing the nostrils.   The best recommendation is to have an in-person consultation with a board certified specialist who can assist you with achieving the results you seek. 3-dimensional computer imaging can help you visualize what you may look like afterwards and serve as an important communication tool with your surgeon.

An alarplasty is a modification of the shape or width of the nasal base. In this picture it does appear that narrowing of the base of your nose with excision of a small amount of skin within the nostrils would be beneficial.
