Age 62, no kids, recently lost 61 pounds. In my early '40's, I weighed slightly more than I do now, but I had a perfectly flat stomach then. In fact, I had liposuction at 41 because I couldn't get rid of stubborn saddlebags and at that time I asked the PS about also doing my stomach and he said, "no, your stomach is perfect. We will leave it alone." I would like to lose 5 to 10 more pounds, but not sure it would make a difference with the appearance of my stomach.
Answer: Tummy Tuck Candidacy You age wouldn't keep you from getting a tummy tuck or a dermolipectomy (skin excision without muscle repair) so long as you are in good health. Based on the information in your question and your photo, you might consider a dermolipectomy, which benefits patients who have wrinkly or excess skin, but reasonably good muscle tone. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who can discuss your concerns and your options with you. Best wishes!

Answer: Age as a risk factor for surgery Age is one of many factors that are evaluated to calculate the risks of surgery. In the absence of other risk factors, your age alone should not preclude surgery. One part of a formal consultation with a plastic surgeon is a review of your medical history to confirm the safety of any surgical procedure.

Answer: Tummy Tuck Candidate A Tummy Tuck is a procedure to correct the effects of pregnancy or weight loss. A tummy tuck is frequently combined with liposuction of the abdomen and waist. Good candidates for a tummy tuck are in good health and have reached a stable weight. I do not advise tummy tucks for those who are unable to stop smoking. A tummy tuck will correct: 1. Loose skin and stretch marks of the lower abdomen 2. Abdominal bulge resulting from separation of the abdominal muscle (diastasis recti) 3. Localized fat deposits of the abdomen and waist Hernias of the abdominal wall may be corrected at the time of a tummy tuck, but are not part of the tummy tuck procedure. Being 10-15 pounds of your goal weight before the Tummy Tuck would help. I would recommend a consultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. Best regards, Andrew Lyos, MD, FACS

Answer: Is 62 too old for a tummy tuck? Your age is certainly not a contraindication to having a tummy tuck. There are a number of factors that are more important: Your general health, individual anatomy, realistic expectations, and a full understanding of the benefits as well as the potential problems that can occur with the procedure. I would suggest you find a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. If you decide to undergo the procedure, I would suggest a medical clearance from your primary physician before proceeding with a tummy tuck.Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California

Answer: Tummy tuck 62 is hardly old. Today I’m turning 61, I have performed tummy tucks in women quite a bit older than you. If your health is good there is no problem having it done.
