Is it possible to get a 'fistula' in between bellybutton and incision line after tummy tuck that needs to be removed? If the bellybutton is draining fluid and lower abdomen is very swollen? Or is this just another way of describing a seroma or a capsule that has developed?

Answer: Tummy Tuck and Draining Umbilicus There certainly can be an opening that could develop or form from the umbilicus to a seroma cavity or perhaps a permanent suture.I would recommend being evaluated by your plastic surgeon to see what the issue happens to be.If you are not able to see your previous surgeon then you can visit with a board certified plastic surgeon who is interested in taking over your case.Hope that helps.

Answer: Tummy tuck fistula? I suppose that it would be possible to develop a fistula after a tummy tuck, but this would be rare. A fistula could form from a persistent infection of nonabsorbable sutures or could be related to an encapsulated fluid collection. If you are noticing a fistula, I would get in touch with your surgeon so that you can be examined.
