Answer: Always Choose Mechanical Support: Tape! Hello, Although there is not much mention of it, scars do best with mechanical support afforded by elastic tape (one of the two things that a very expensive product known as Embrace promotes). Silicone gels/topicals, silicone impregnated tape, or silicone sheeting are not as important in the first 2 to 3 months, and may never be needed if early and consistent tape therapy is applied. Get a couple boxes of Hypafix ( 2in by 10 yards) on Amazon for $15. That will help your scars better than the hundreds you'd spend on silicone products. Best of luck!

Answer: Scar Treatment gel/ tape dear patient: i would defiitively follow the post op instructions your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon gives you regarding how to best take care of scars. In my practice, where I perform at least two Tummy Tucks a week, I advise my patients that for the first weeks (up to 4 to 5weeks) we would closely monitor scars and not apply any scar gel or silicone sheets until I tell the patient the scar is ready to be treated. At the time the scar is ready for treatment I then provide the patient with one of two Scar Gel treatments I carry in my practice: Biocorneum (which works better for light skin patients) or Skin Medica's Scar Gel (which works better for my darker skin patients). They should apply a thin layer everyday for as long as they can, some patients use it for over a year. Both gels have been very successful in lightening and fading scars. Both these gels are on the more expensive sid but they work. You can always use silicone sheets as well. Ask your plastic surgeon which product he or she uses. Hope this helps!

Answer: Silicone Scar Treatment The most important thing to do is to ask your surgeon what he/she prefers for treatment of the incision and when it should be started.I am not sure if it really makes a difference which silicone sheet/tape is used. Silicone helps smoothen out the scar and prevent the scars from getting thickened. That is the real purpose of silicone tape. It generally does not help prevent spreading of the incision however. The only scar treatment that has proven to work is silicone.Hope that helps.

Answer: What treatment is better for my scars after tummy tuck? I actually recommend neither one for they are expensive, messy and my patients have not been compliant using them. I recommend ScaRxtapedotcom which is inexpensive. You place it on the wound and need to change it about once per week! Make sure you use it for at least two months!Dr. Edward Jonas Domanskis is Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery 1441 Avocado Avenue, Suite 307 Newport Beach, California 92660 949.640-6324/1.888.234-5080(Ca) FAX- 949.640-7347 Website: Assistant Clinical Professor of SurgeryWOS-Plastic,University of California (Irvine) Orange County’s Physician of Excellence/America’s Top Physicians/Top Doctors Plastic Surgery- 2005-2017 President,American Society of Bariatric Plastic Surgeons Organoderm Skin care/ScaRxTape
