How can I treat severe hyperpigmentation under breasts? (Photos)

Question

I had my breasts done in October, I am freshly 6 months post opp. I ended up getting pregnant almost immediately after and am due end of July. I know this has contributed to the discoloration. About 2 months post opp when they were starting to fall, the whole under side of my breasts and sides turned bright red and were warm. I was not in pain and had no other symptoms. I figured this was regular settling and stretching of skin. They turned almost completely brown. I am wondering where I go from here. I know I can use lightening creams after I give birth but what if that doesn’t clear them up? Are there any surgeries I can get to fix this? I also wouldnt mind having bigger implants as well. I just need some answers. I have seen my obgyn, a dermatologist, and 2 plastic surgeons that have not given me any answers and just blanket statement that its pregnancy but have given me no options to resolve the issue.

Since you’re pregnant, it would be best to wait it out until you’ve given birth and if you breastfeed, have stopped. At that time, you can consider nonsurgical options such as creams or technologies.

Based on your history and photos, the discoloration you are experiencing is most consistent with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation exacerbated by hormonal changes from pregnancy, along with skin stretching following augmentation. This type of pigmentation can appear suddenly and become more pronounced over time, especially in areas under tension. The good news is that it often improves gradually after hormonal stabilization, although it can take several months. First-line management includes medical grade topical treatments such as hydroquinone, azelaic acid, retinoids, and strict sun protection. If topical therapy is insufficient, procedures like chemical peels or laser treatments can be considered cautiously. Surgical correction is not typically indicated for pigmentation alone, but if you are also considering implant revision or size adjustment in the future, this can be addressed separately. A dermatologist-guided treatment plan will provide the safest and most effective approach.

@ashleysmiless There are no surgeries that I would recommend to remove all of the pigmentation. I would recommend starting with lightening cream after you deliver your baby. If your Plastic Surgeon doesn't want to prescribe that, consider seeing a dermatologist. If the lightening cream doesn't work, you could consider a laser treatment specifically designed to treat pigmentation.
