There is no definitive answer to this question. Each surgeon will have his/her suggestion and my best advice is to just follow their suggestion. I personally only stress the use of the compression garments for 2 weeks now. I used to have patients wear them for 6 weeks, but I could not find any evidence that it was indeed necessary to wear them for that long. There is no harm in wearing them for longer, but it probably doesn't help that much either.
How long does a #CompressionGarment need to be worn to help after #Liposuction&TummyTuck? For most, my patients wear garments for 3 wks day and night then 3 additional weeks for half a day.If you have had suction of the knees, thighs, or abdomen, the doctor will have put on a compression garment at the end of the surgery. The extra pressure this garment provides helps reduce swelling and discomfort. You should not remove this garment at all until the second or third day after surgery. After that, feel free to remove the garment temporarily for laundering. We want you to have circumferential pressure for 4-6 weeks, but you may switch to an exercise garment (Lycra or Spandex) whenever it feels comfortable to slip it on or off, as you will have to do so in order to go to the bathroom. See the below link for a more fuller explanation and general advice. See your surgeon for specific advice.
I generally advise patients wear their garment 24 hours a day for three weeks, removing it only when bathing or washing it. From 3 to 6 weeks, wear your garment in the day only. It helps with easing swelling and reducing the risk of seroma. The garment should fit snugly but not to the point that you can't breathe or are feeling sore. However, it's best to talk to your surgeon about this. They will give you advice specific to your situation.
In my practice I have patients where compressive garments fairly religiously for about six weeks. There's nothing objective to support this and other surgeons certainly have other ideas. Listen to your own plastic surgeon.
Each PS has his or her post op instructions which would outline how long compression garments ought to be worn after surgery. In our practice we recommend 4 weeks,
Itypically have my patients wear their compression garments for at least twoweeks after their procedure. This helps bring down the swelling as much aspossible. I've had quite a few patients wear them for longer in the pastbecause they like the extra support.
It is very important to wear your compressiongarment after Smartlipo. The reason being that it will help to control swellingthat will occur post procedure; wear it for however long your doctor advises.Good luck in your recovery!
I prefer to have patients wear garment for 3-6 weeks after surgery, but some surgeons do not even recommend it. Best to ask yours.
Thank you for your question. Recommendation for compression garments varies from practice to practice. In my practice, after liposuction my patients wear their compression garments for 4 weeks after surgery day and night. Starting on the 5th week compression garments are worn only at night time. I recommend that you make an appointment with your plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns.
This is one of those questions that does not have an absolute answer. Each surgeon approaches it differently. As a result, it is reasonable to assume that there is some wiggle room. Nonetheless, I think the best answer in individual cases like this will come from the plastic surgeon who performed your procedure. Give him or her a call and allow them the first opportunity to use their knowledge of you and your procedure to get you the best answer.Best,Dr. Pyle
