Cool sculpting instead of liposuction after abdominoplasty?

After tummy tuck surgery there may be contour deformities which may be refractory to conservative measures such as massage and use of an abdominal binder. These may represent untreated areas and multiple options are available. In office touch ups with Liposuction may be possible however another alternative is  SculpSure for finesse feathering for body refinement. It is unlikely that cool sculpting will be beneficial in this case as a full tummy tuck will have resulted in significant body sculpting and therefore it is unlikely to be able to have enough tissue to be drawn up into the applicator.

Hello, thanks for your question. First, it is not true that liposuction causes unwanted fat to migrate to other areas of your body. During liposuction, targeted fat cells are completely removed, so it would be impossible for them to create more fat in other areas. Whether or not CoolSculpting® would be a good option for you during your tummy tuck instead of liposuction will depend on how much excess fat you would like to be removed. It is possible to do CoolSculpting as another alternative non-surgical option to Liposuction in conjunction with your tummy tuck however you should be aware of the differences between the two treatments and how that will affect you. Mainly, Liposuction would be able to remove significantly more fat in the treated area than CoolSculpting, which removes 20-25% of fat per treatment. It is possible to receive multiple CoolSculpting treatments if you decide the first one was not sufficient. It should also be noted that fat does not commonly "travel elsewhere" after Liposuction but if you do gain weight post treatment it is possible for the remaining fat cells to swell leading to weight gain in that area.
This is also possible with CoolSculpting. I would talk to your surgeon about exploring this option and whether or not you would really get better results with CoolSculpting. Good luck!

CoolSculpting is a terrific treatment for nonsurgical fat removal, and it is certainly less surgical (and aggressive as a treatment).  The limitation is that it does not destroy or remove as much fat as the surgeon can do with liposuction.  If you are comfortable with that limitation, then it can be a good alternatives.  Be prepared though, that it will likely cost more than the lipo will when done at the same time as surgery.  

A tummy tuck will take care of loose skin , muscle issues such as Diastasis recti and can be combined with liposuction . In general coolsculpting removes 20-25% of subcutaneous fat , liposuction usually removes 60-80%. If you are having a surgical tummy tuck it makes much more sense from a practical  standpoint to combine it with liposuction , then combining it with coolsculpting. If you have additional weight gain after liposuction then fat can accumulate in other areas , but in theory this can also happen with coolscupting. 

It is potentially possible to do coolsculpting post tummy tuck. Consult with an experienced and expert board certified plastic surgeon who has a certified coolsculpting center (not all placed that have coolsculpting is certified) to understand your options.

Liposuction can be performed with abdominoplasty, judiciously, and if done overaggressively can lead to complications.  Fat does not "travel elsewhere" after liposuction, though if you gain weight after liposuction your remaining fat cells in other sites will get bigger.  This will also happen after Cool Sculpting.  I suggest an in-depth discussion with the surgeon who will do your tummy tuck, going over these concerns and the options.
