Will a chin implant deepen my mental sulcus? (Photos)

Thank you for your question and photos. While the crease may deepen after chin augmentation, the aesthetic benefits will likely outweigh this concern. Inserting a chin implant can add a well-defined projection to the jawline and bring balance to the rest of the facial features.
The size and shape of the implant should be compared to each individual patient’s bone structure and aesthetic goals. Silicone implants are often recommended because they are the easiest to customize. I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with an experienced, board-certified facial plastic surgeon who can assess your concerns and develop the best approach for you.

A chin implant will definitely deepen the mental crease by nature of making the chin larger. Different surgeons have different preferences when it comes to sizing. We like to take a Vectra 3D image and use that to help with sizing.

A chin implant does tend to increase the depth of the mentolabial fold. It is a good idea to allow the surgeon to select the best fit for your chin. You may need a medium or large implant as your chin is moderately recessed.

Thank you for your question. While an implant will deepen the crease, it will also help add projection and definition to the chin and jawline. I tend to base implant size based on patient bone structure and height. In general the taller the patient, the more likely a larger implant will be needed for a natural result. All the best to you!

Thank you for your question. You are an excellent candidate for chin augmentation. It is a straight forward surgery with little downtime. The labiomental crease is often worsened with this procedure, however I have had a very high success with subcutaneous release and fat grafting to this area. Best wishes to you.

In your particular situation, the sulcus between your lower lip and chin may look deeper, due to jetting position of your lower teeth. However, your overall aesthetic balance will improve. You will also likely get improvement in your neck laxity.

When contemplating getting chin augmentation it’s important to look at the shape or angle of the chin. In your case the chin is not very pointed and your labelemental angle is not problematic for getting an implant. For individuals who already have a pointed chin augmentation can create a witches chin appearance. With the modest augmentation I think you’ll be fine and any increase in the labiomental angle is probably justified.

The alternative procedure is a sliding genioplasty.

Horizontal augmentation can worsen an already deep labiomental ankle but vertical augmentation does not.

Some people benefit from both vertical and horizontal enhancement.
