Fat in the posterior cervical region generally is inadequately treated by one operation. Because of the dense connective tissue resolution of swelling may take a bit longer.
Buffalo humps need aggressive liposuction and if this wasn't performed you may just be getting a less than optimal result. Sometimes the shape of the spine effects the ultimate outcome. I suggest speaking to your physician or getting a second formal consultation. Best, Dr. Emer.
Thank you for your question. There are a variety of causes for this particular deformity. When I see you this problem, I usually recommend an evaluation by the patient's primary physician or endocrinologist. Liposuction is one way of managing this problem. If this does not help, or it returns, I believe this requires additional investigation such as imaging, and perhaps a biopsy.
Generally any area cheated with liposuction should not need to be treated twice. The remaining fat cells have the ability to grow with weight gain and potentially grow due to side effects of medications. Because the majority of fat cells are typically removed during the post suction there are much fewer cells to grow even if stimulated. Therefore it would be unlikely the area would need to be treated more than once and patients should generally expect a permanent improvement. Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
Thank you for your question band without major weight gain fat should not return in a large degree any area after liposuctionDr Corbin
