How long will a Gore-Tex implant last? (Photo)

Question

I'm an African American female who will be getting surgery in a week and I'm concerned about the Gore-Tex implant I'm concerned about getting an infection our Excursion. I don't want to have to go under the knife again?

not only can you have an infection with Gortex but it is VERY difficult to remove!  For these reasons I prefer using the patients on tissue rather than foreign implants.

Hello. Thank you for your question. I discourage foreign materials in the nose during rhinoplasty because e of the long term complications. You may request a second opinion from another experienced ethnic rhinoplasty surgeon who is comfortable with harvesting your own cartilage to achieve your aesthetic goals. Good luck

There is no perfect graft but I would prefer to use your own tissue rather than an artificial implant which carries a permanent risk of infection or extrusion.

Gortex is an example of a synthetic implant that will last a lifetime. Many excellent surgeons will use this product to augment the nose. However I have always preferred to use the patients own tissue to avoid the increased risk of infection, movement and possible extrusion.
