The only reason why botox is more expensive in the US is because the Allergan simply can charge more for it. The same is seen with other medications in the USA as well. Unfortunate, but true. Good luck from New York City

Botox, its several equivalents and dermal fillers are much less expensive in many countries. The reason is the same as the reason for huge price differences of any pharmaceuticals. Of course, the manufacturers still make good profits in those countries. I can't find at this moment the best word describing the reason...

I would imagine that this is due to the overheads that all doctors have to pay. Insurance, regulation, accreditation, training, rent, staff, pensions, etc all have to be counted when deciding how to price any treatment.

Great question.
Pharmaceutical companies do not have as strict requirements in Europe and other countries as they do here in the USA.  That means that medications, such as Botox, have to undergo more testing and safety studies before they can enter the country.  The pharmaceutical companies tend to make up for those expenses by increasing the price of the medication.
