Hello; I'm suffering from acnes about 10 years, going to doctor monthly for 4 years, having daily medicines and creams, but nothing working, when I stop using medicines acnes will come back, having medicines & still acnes appearing daily strongly. I have a very ugly skin with dark spots, scars, big holes and acnes. My question is can I try micro-needling treatment for scars and holes while there still is acne n pimples in my face or shall I wait until acnes go away n then go for micro-needling?

Answer: Micro needling for active acne prone skin Hello and thank you for this question. I love talking about micro needling with our very pure growth factor serum that is so anti-inflammatory, we have seen active pustular and cystic acne up to 50% better in the first 24 hours! Not all micro needling is the same. The device (pen, manual stamp etc) is one part and that is for collagen induction. This means that when the trauma of the needles microscopically injures the skin, it stimulates collagen and elastin to be made which is the "repair" process. This can take up to several months to see after a treatment. This is what treats lines, wrinkles and scars for a smoother skin surface. The other part of the treatment with more immediate results is adding human growth factor serum to the skin surface to be needled. Think of this process as aerating the lawn of your skin and then adding fertilizer. Active acne is the most dramatic and quick effect because there is so much inflammation and redness, there is usually a great amount of change that can occur in a short time. It is wonderful for acne but not all micro needling is done the same and not everyone uses the fertilizer. Our serum is so pure that it can be used on an open wound. Hope this helps! Sincerely, Valerie Schneider MD

Answer: Microneedling on active acne Your concern about microneedling and active acne islegit. There are cases when microneedling only spreads out the bacteria morecausing further breakout. However, there are also cases when microneedling canactually help in managing active acne. This is why it is very important thatyou consult first from a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist before undergoing microneedling sessions.Your doctor would be able to assess and evaluate your situation so you both candecide if microneedling will be helpful or not for your active acne case. Microneedling using Dermapen can help in reducingactive acne appearance. Dermapen has a number of fine needles that createcontrolled tiny holes in the skin just a little below its outermost layer.Microneedling is a needle dermabrasion system that makes a series of tiny woundsor holes in your skin’s dermis layer. Withthese tiny wounds present, your skin will start self-healing. It will alsostart producing collagen while also releasing growth factors. The skin willthen become much thicker thereby improving its overall texture. The tiny holesalso serve as channels where Vitamin A can be delivered. Vitamin A can help incombating the symptoms as well as causes of acne. Results can be observed in aslittle as 6 weeks after the initial treatment. Its full effects will be seen in3 months. Results vary from individual to individual though. It is best to talkthis down with your doctor so he or she can do evaluation prior committing toany procedure.
