I will be doing subcision or excision for chickenpox scars on the forehead. I have read that microneedling after may be an option. What would the downtime be on these procedures. Also, how many sessions of microneedling would I need to see results?
Answer: Microneedling downtime There is minimal downtime with microneedling. You will look a little pink the next day as if you had a bit too much sun. For acne scarring, we recommend 4 treatments 4-6 weeks apart.

Answer: Subcision & Microneedling Work Well For Chicken Pox Scars And Engender Little To No Downtime I have been using the combination of subcision followed by microneedling for chicken pox scars for many years. Subcision, which I have been performing for 22 years for all kinds of scars, works UNDER the surface of the scar. Except for the tiny puncture mark (which closes entirely almost immediately following treatment) made by the needle that is inserted to do the work, there is no surface wound and hence no real downtime. Since blood and tissue fluid fill the space under the scar created by the procedure, the appearance of a surface bruise, which can last between five and ten days, can perhaps be considered the only real downtime. But for most people it presents no problem and women can easily cover the site immediately following treatment and thereafter with makeup. Medical microneedling, which I have been performing both manually and with electrically driven devices for about fifteen years does engender limited downtime. Since the procedure creates numerous microscopic pin pricks in the skin of the scar, redness, even a bit of bleeding and crusting are inevitalbe. However, in general, just an overnight Bandaid is required and by the following morning the treated skin appears like a mild sunburn. Excision, on the other hand, which is true surgery, requires deeper cutting and stitching. Accordingly, it typically engenders about seven to ten days of healing, suture removal, and the potential for a period of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

Answer: Microneedling Hi, thank you for your question! The downtime to microneedling will be 24-48 hrs of redness. You can wear makeup after 24hrs after the treatment. You may have some residual peeling 48-72 hours after. I would recommend 1-3 sessions of microneedling every 6-8 weeks for optimal results.
