Can micro needling/derma pen to treat fine lines be done if a patient has fillers in the nasolabial folds?

YES, microneedling/dermapen treatments can be used in conjunction with each other. If opting to do filler first,  it is recommended that the microneedling treatment be spaced no sooner than 2 weeks post filler treatment.  This will ensure the microneedling treatment will not affect the integrity of your filler. I often recommend this combination treatment for those patients interested in overall skin rejuvenation.  Fillers are great for an "instant" lift to those areas creating weight on the face i.e. nasolabial folds, whereas microneedling will strengthen the skin by building up collagen over time.  Our patients have been very pleased with the softening of fine lines and wrinkles around the the eyes, mouth and nasolabial folds.  In addition, we are seeing notable improvement in the overall texture and tone of the skin after a single microneedling treatment.  Be sure to consult with a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to discuss your options. Remember, injectables are an art form as much as science and skin care requires maintenance. So, the conversation should be inclusive of home care as well. 

I often use dermal filler and Dermapen together, attacking from deeper to more superficial layer. I inject dermal filler into deeper folds to revolumize and lift the concavity. I then use Dermapen to stimulate collagen production to improve the fine lines and skin texture and tone. Although the reverse order can be done as well. Dermapen will not move the dermal filler

Yes, microneedling is safe to use even after you havehad fillers. Some doctors incorporate microneedling procedures after fillertreatments are done to achieve a more youthful look and a rejuvenated skin. Forinstance, your doctor could give you fillers in deeper areas to restore somevolume in the face. Such fillers would include Radiesse, Juvederm, as well asSculptra. For superficial wrinkles, fillers like Belotero and Restylane couldbe injected. Your doctor could then follow up these treatments withmicroneedling sessions for enhanced effects. Microneedling can be used withhuman growth factor serums made using human stem cells. After care maintenanceusing growth factor serums will also be instructed for home use.
I would generally suggest for the microneedlingtreatment to be done no earlier than a couple of weeks after your fillerprocedure.
