I am 27 and have deep tear troughs. Ive had them since 23 and already had special redensity fillers which made my under eyes worse! What is the best way to treat without fillers or surgery? I have a microcurrent machine - is there any method of treating using this? Also, can anyome explain the science behind why these bags have appeared?
Answer: Improving Under Eye without Fillers (Belotero, Volbella, Restylane Silk)--Co2, Fraxel, Microneedling/PRP Eye bags can be due to a number of factors including: aging, genetics and allergies. A combination approach will give the most improvement. Without fillers-lasers, and microneedling/PRP can improve under the eyes. My patients try to get non surgical treatments to avoid surgery. We use PRP and stem cells there often. I suggest consulting with an expert to develop a treatment plan best suited for your short and long term goals. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Options The best options for treatment are a lower blepharoplasty surgery or fillers, both of which you mentioned you do not want. I don't think you will find much benefit from a microcurrent machine. I recommend visiting with an experienced plastic surgeon in your area to discuss other options. If you would be willing to try fillers again I would suggest researching to find someone with extensive experience. There is a definite art when injections are done in this highly sensitive area.

Answer: Surgery or fillers are the best option The "bags" under you eyes are caused by the fat around the eye bulging out. Your eyeball or globe sits inside your bony orbit and is surrounded by fatty tissue. These contents are held inside the orbit by your orbital septum. The bags you see are the ballooning out of this orbital fat pushing against the orbital septum. Oftentimes, these bags become more prominent as we get older and our tissues stretch out. There are some specialized eye creams that can improve the appearance of under eye bags a bit, but your best option is a lower lid blepharoplasty. Microcurrent will not be effective unfortunately. A lower lid blepharoplasty is a surgery that can be performed with an incision hidden on the inside of your eyelid. With this procedure, the fat causing the bags is permanently removed. Some fat could also be re-positioned into the tear trough area to serve as a permanent filler. Fillers alone would also help with the tear trough area, but would not be as effective as a lower lid blepharoplasty. If you would like to avoid surgery, trying fillers again would be an option. This is a tricky area to fill though, so make sure you see someone with extensive experience treating this area.

Answer: How to treat tear trough WITHOUT filler or surgery? Thank you for your question. I do not know of any nonsurgical or non-invasive method to correct deep tear troughs or dark circles under the eyes. To understand more why you have them please read to below and watch the video.

Answer: Options I am not sure you have tear troughs, rather congenital malar bags. Tear troughs are the abnormal separation of the malar fat from the orbital margin which is unlikely to have happened at your age. Malr bags alas are also hard to treat, in fact in some ways harder than tear troughs. Go and have a look at malar bags on real self and tell us what you think. Hope that helps. Adam Goodwin
