Why did my surgeon not put a splint on my nose? I am 5 days post op.

My nose is very swollen which I expected but I am worried that it is more so because I do not have a splint over my nose, just steri strips. I had open rhinoplasty and septoplasty to remove hump and straighten nose. Why would my surgeon chose to not use a splint?
