Can I use scaraway silicone yet?

Hi, thank you for your question. It may take several months for a tummy tuck
patient’s scars to soften, for sensation to return, and for relaxing of the
tight sensation in the abdomen. In the case of extensive surgery,
abdominoplasty recovery can be uncomfortable and may take longer. Scars may
stay red, become thick or widen . It can take 12-18 months for the scars to
settle.

These can be improved with topical treatments
such as BioCorneum, Scar Guard , Scar Fade and Mederma. Redness can be improved
with laser treatments and the scars can be kept narrow with products such as
Embrace.On occasion, keloids or
hypertrophic scars can develop and will need treatment including Kenalog, 5FU
and laser. Since plastic surgeons vary in their preferred treatment plan, I suggest you pursue an evaluation and treatment plan from your plastic surgeon. Best Wishes!#scarcream #postTT3months #evaluation

I do not see any problem with starting silicone sheeting. In our practice we use tape therapy from day 1. Always default to your PS recommendations. Thanks.

This is something you need to get cleared from your surgeon. For my patients, I have them start using the strips once their incisions are completely healed. Good luck!

Congratulations on your recent tummy tuck.If your scar is healed, it should be okay to use silicone strips.After I make sure that the incision is healed, I allow my patients to use scar cream or silicone sheets.Please visit your plastic surgeon and get his/her clearance.Best regards.

Thank you for the question. At three weeks post operative, your incision appears to be healing well and treatment with silicone strips can certainly help and not hurt the scar. Docs have differing opinions as to the timing. I believe at 2-3 weeks post operative, provided there are no open areas, scar treatment with silicone strips is safe and effective. Also, be sure to sun protect with sun screen and, of course, avoid tanning beds. This all gives the best chance for a nice, thin, linear scar that will fade with time.Best wishes,Michael Morrissey, MD

I typicalyl instruct all of my patients to wait at least 6 weeks until all the scabbing and incisions completely close to use any scar treatment regimine.  However, I would consult with your PS and ask him his personal reocmmendations.
