Getting pregnant after full Tummy Tuck and muscle repair?

Hi, a year ago I had a full TT and muscle repair of a 10cm gap following 2 pregnancies (both c-section), although I didn't think to get a pregnant again I am suddenly re-considering, could you advise me what will happen to my muscles , the stitches if I was to get pregnant again? Bear in mind I get very big as I have a very petit figure Many thanks

You can get pregnant following a TT. The Pregnancy should not be affected by the repair but the repair might get affected by the pregnancy.

As a general statement, we prefer not to do tummy tucks on women who are not yet finished having children. The reason being that pregnancy after a tummy tuck can largely undo the benefits of the original tummy tuck. There will be again be stretching of the skin and the stomach wall muscles. This additional stretching of the remaining skin can cause it to thin and increase the risk of stretch marks. Although a repeat tummy tuck is a possibility, redo surgery is more complex with some higher risks.Nevertheless, I have had over the years, several patients who did become pregnant after their tummy tucks and the good new is that none of them experienced any problems or difficulties whatsoever from having had a tummy tuck prior to becoming pregnant.Best wishes!

A very common question!  I get asked this all the time.  I get asked from two perspectives.  First, patients want to know if the tummy tuck will increase the risk of the pregnancy, to which I would answer, "NO".  Secondly, I get asked whether or not the tummy tuck will be ruined by the pregnancy, to which I answer, "YES", this is a possibility.  The stretching of the skin and muscle repairs can be altered by a pregnancy after tummy tuck, especially if you have twins or triplets.  All isn't completely lost, though, you would just have to have a revision tummy tuck.  I hope this information helps you with your future decisions!
