Is Chron's disease a contraindication for Tummy Tuck surgery?

If you receive a diagnosis of Crohn's disease then its important to discuss your health concerns with your plastic surgeon.  Of relevance may be medications you are taking eg prednisone, and your general fitness.  Crohn's is a disease of the intestines and while abdomoplasty per se should not be affected, you have to weigh up the added risks with your PS before undergoing such surgery.  Its important for your health to be stable for several months prior to surgery.  Good luck.

Crohn's disease is not an absolute contraindication to a tummy tuck.  It sounds like there are still working you up for this.  If you are diagnosed positive, it would be up to your consulting doctor whether or not you should have this procedure.  We often do tummy tuck's on patients with pre-exissting conditions such as these.  The goal is for the disease to be stable and/or in remission.  We also tell are patients that there may be a slightly higher risk of complications, but we work to minimize those risks and work with our patients in this regard.  Good luck with your work up!  I would talk with your consulting doctor about your wishes to proceed with a tummy tuck and see what he or she thinks.

Crohn's disease is no contraindications to any surgery. Nevertheless it is something that you should inform your plastic surgeon about. There is always a possibility that you might need bowel surgery in the future.
