Why is my scar indented? (photos)

In patients who are having a tummy tuck procedure
and have previously undergone a C-section, the goal would be to place the
new scar at or below the position / level where that original C-section scar
was located. The exact position depends upon how high the original
C-section scar was located. In many situations, the new tummy tuck scar is
placed below the position where the original C-section scar was located; it
sounds like this was discussed before your operation as well. During the
surgery, the old C-section scar would be completely excised so that it has no
influence on healing after the tummy tuck surgery is complete. A good number of
women have unsatisfactory C-section scars, and excising the C-section scar
allows the tummy tuck scar to heal with a better result.



It appears that your tummy tuck scar was
initially in a satisfactory position. I cannot explain exactly why your scar
has become more elevated in position as your healing has progressed. The surgeon
who did your operation can potentially provide some insight for you.



It does appear that a scar revision would be
helpful. Your current scar can be excised; the lower abdominal tissues can be
undermined up to the level of the bellybutton, and then pulled downward to
reposition the scar at a lower level. Perhaps some three-point sutures can be
used to secure the closure to the abdominal wall fascia to prevent recurrent
elevation of the scar.



I don't know how much benefit you will
receive, but perhaps utilizing a skin bleaching cream for several
months postoperatively will reduce some of the hyperpigmentation along
your scar.

We like to complete a tummy tuck closure below the c-section scar level as your surgeon discussed with you. Why have things not worked out can be addressed by your surgeon, though the scar revision hopefully will solve the problem.
