I have type 1 diabetes and I have just had a blood test to get my HBA1C result to go forward with a breast augmentation but I have a sensor which gives you an estimated A1C and the result is 8.7% (72mmol/mol). Is this too high for surgery as I really wanted to have it done as soon as possible?
Answer: What does your HBA1C need to be to get a breast augmentation? I'm Type 1 diabetic. Thank you for sharing your question. It is best to be under a 7 to minimize the risk of possible complications.

Answer: What does your HBA1C need to be to get a breast augmentation? I'm Type 1 diabetic. You need to be in the normal range (less than 5.6% or less than 38mmol/mol) and that will make your chance of complications e.g. wound healing and infection normalise. I would advise you discuss these figures with your Diabetic Specialise Nurse, Endocrinologist and/or GP to get onto a new regime that will lead to better control prior to doing a breast augmentation. Good luck.

Answer: Surgery For any elective surgery, your A1C should be 7 or less. Anything above 7 shows that your blood sugars are peeking up too high and you are at more risk of infections and poor healing.

Answer: What does your HBA1C need to be to get a breast augmentation? I'm Type 1 diabetic. Most doctors say that as long as your diabetes and blood sugar are well under control, plastic surgery such as breast enlargement should be fine. If you are otherwise healthy, just make sure your blood sugars are controlled and kept within the normal range (5.5 - 6,.4 biorderline; above 6.4, diabetic) , which will significantly reduce any risk of complication. Your board certified PS may ask for clearance from your PCP.

Answer: BA candidate Dear jodielynch, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. You should be healthy prior to elective procedures and any health condition should be under control. Your HbA1C should be within normal range. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.
