Hello lagsand21,Thanks for your question.Actually 3L of fat removal during liposuction is significant for most people.  It really depends on your height and weight.  For most patients, 3L of fat removal is not so much that they can't go home after surgery the same day.  If patients have more than 5L removed in one session, it is prudent to keep the patient in hospital monitored.Liposuction is performed for body contouring purposes, not weight loss.  It is important for the patient to be within 30% of their ideal body weight for safe anesthesia administration.I hope this was helpful.Dr. Shah
