She weighs 145 and she's 5'5 and 15. She has fat on her thighs and stomach. Can she get the "surgery" at 145 llbs?

Hello stephaniedancer,Thanks for your question.In general, elective cosmetic surgery is not recommended for minors.  It is typically limited to nose surgery and ear surgery.Liposuction in a 15yo who actually seems to be fairly normal looking is not typically performed.  Liposuction is used for spot fat loss, not weight loss.Your daughter's body is changing a lot for the next several years and diet and exercise are typically better for what I am seeing.  She would need parental consent to proceed as she is a minor.Her current weight is not an issue.Good luck,Dr. Shah

Generally, it is not advisable to perform cosmetic surgery on minors.  At 15 her body is changing rapidly and it would be best to wait.

Most plastic surgeons would not perform liposuction on a teenage girl unless there was some significant psychological problem created by the unwanted fat. An effort should be made to properly manage body weight. In the end it is the decision of the parents.

Liposuction can be performed for specific reasons on anyone.  However, lipo is not a substitute for diet management and weight loss with exercise.  She needs behavior modification of her eating habits, and a good exercise program, before using surgery as a crutch for "I can't lose weight".  I know this is difficult for a teenager, who tends to eat junk food with her friends. You need to teach her how to eat properly, and it will stay with her for life, and hopefully her children, later.
