Autumn,HRT does very little typically to improve the facial structures. Some people see some improvement in the facial fat (cheeks) and maybe skin tone. What is important, however, is that it helps protect against hair loss. You must be on HRT after forehead surgery for example.See my videos for more information.
I like patients to be on hormones as soon as possible stop hair loss. Otherwise it makes no difference as long as fat grafting is not done.
Autumn, There is no universally excepted amount of time that you would need to be on HRT before FSS. Most surgeons would like to see you be on hormone therapy for about a year before surgery, but there are many exceptions. First, FFS does not mean the same thing for ever patient. Some patients have many procedures, some patients only have 1 or 2. If you are only going to have a feminizing rhinoplasty there is no reason that you have to be on hormones. Some patients cannot take hormones for medical reasons, like a blood clotting disorder. Hormone therapy can improve your skin quality and may add some volume back to your face. When performing cheek augmentation for patients we would ideally like to see a year of hormone therapy so that we know the volume is stable. The most important thing we look for before surgery, though, is for a patient to demonstrate a consistent set of providers providing for their medical needs in an appropriate and coordinated fashion. Thank you for your question which is so important. It is not necessary to be on #feminising hormones prior to #FFS. The frequent "male" features such as brow bossing, nose, upper lip, chin and Adams' apple are never changed by #feminising hormones so it does not impact on the outcome of surgery on these features. However, I would not recommend cheek augmentation with implants or fat grafting until about 12 months on feminising hormones because this area of the face will change with hormones. If you have some male pattern hair loss, I would recommend that you start a DHT blocker such as Finasteride or Duasteride soon. Hope that this is helpful.
The HRT is very important for SRS, but for FFS is not necesary be under hrt. It can be done at every stage
Forehead contouring with browlift and scalp advancement, rhinoplasty, chin/jaw contouring, cheek augmentation, lip lift, and a tracheal shave are a great combination of procedures for you. Take a look at my videos to learn why people from worldwide come see us for ffs.
In my practice I like to think of facial feminization surgery for transgender women no different from aesthetic refinements in cis-gender women. At the end of the day all faces have masculine and feminine components. I feel a lot of bad decisions can be made by considering FFS a bucket list o...
You don't need to be on HRT before undergoing facial feminization procedures. It is helpful with hair loss if that's an issue. Best wishes.
