How long for swelling to go down after Juvederm? 2 days post lip injections. (photos)

Question

I had 1ml 2 days ago with. Before injection they were ok sized but I had a small lump on the top left corner from my last treatment a year ago. The guy I went to is a surgeon and he assured me they may look wonky as he’s had to put different amounts in to balance out the lump. He didn’t use much in the bottom as he said it was already a good size so focused mainly on the top. they have never swelled this much. He said he’ll see me in a week for check and massage if needed

Swelling can be typical. I would wait a full 2 weeks before judging the results. If it is after the two week wait, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase.

Hi, thanks for your question. It can take up to 2 weeks for your swelling to fully go down, and for your final result to become apparent following a lip filler treatment. Definitely follow-up with your provider if things have not normalized within that timeframe.

Swelling is common after lip injections, and it can 
take up to 2 weeks for the swelling to subside. Be patient, and if after
 2 weeks you have concerns, meet with your injector to evaluate your 
results.  Hyaluronidase can be injected to reverse the effects of the 
filler.

It can take up to two weeks for swelling to resolve after lip injections.  For the first few days it is helpful to keep your head elevated above the level of your heart and to use intermittent ice packs.  Some patients also find using Bromelain helpful.  If after two weeks you still have concerns, return to your injector for an evaluation.

However, it is too early to determine what your final results will be as it takes up to 2 weeks for swelling to resolve. You can help reduce swelling and bruising by applying cold compresses to the treated area. Swelling is quite common after lip injections, and tends to be most pronounced for the first 24-48 hours.  Lips are very vascular structures and swell after trauma.  Besides time, cool compresses, Tylenol, and an anti-histamine like Zyrtec or Benadryl may be helpful to help resolve swelling.  Please contact your treating physicians for your specific instructions.  Good luck!
