Is it normal to have one bruised and swollen side after Juvederm XC in marionette lines? (Photo)

I had 1 injection of the product on marionette lines near my mouth. I had a downturned mouth look. One side is very bruised and swollen. The other only slightly. Is this normal?

How long has it been since your injections? Initially, swelling and bruising is a common side effect of fillers, though it is difficult to assess your case as the photo isn't very clear. The swelling and bruising should subside within two weeks, but keep a watchful eye out for any worsening.

It is not uncommon to bruise with filler in this area.  And also not uncommon to bruise only on one side.  The bruise occurs as the needle enters the skin and encounters a small blood vessel.  If we are lucky enough not to hit one there is no bruising.  If the needle hits one you get a bruise.  IT will resolve.

Thank you for your question. It is normal to have bruising and swelling after filler injections. It can take up 2 weeks for this to resolve and see your final results. It may be beneficial to ice the treated area(s) to help reduce any swelling and bruising. If after 2 weeks you are unhappy with results you can have the filler dissolved with an enzyme known as hyaluronidase. Please see you injector if you have any concerns. Best of Luck!

Sometimes a blood vessel breaks. The bruising may last up to 5 days. BUT that's not what strikes me in this picture. I always add Juviderm on either side of the lip horizontally prior to filling marionette lines. The heaviness down below with none above will cause a downturned mouth. Symmetry and balance on a face is the key.

Thank you for your question and for sharing your photograph.  Sorry that you are having some concerns about your postprocedure appearance.  Some swelling and bruising is normal after treatment with Juvederm.  Icing for up to 48 hours after the procedure is beneficial.  Arnica is also helpful for minimizing normal postprocedure swelling and bruising.  Application of makeup can be done to conceal any bruising.  Please keep in mind that it will take 2 weeks to allow for normal postprocedure swelling and bruising to resolve and to see your final result.  At that point, if you continue to have any concerns, please be sure to see your injector for an in-person reevaluation in order to determine the best course of action.  Hope this helps and best wishes!

I can't tell how severe the bruising is from the photo.  If you have concerns, you should call your injector today and be evaluated in person.Bruising is a common occurrence after filler injection, but there are techniques that we use to try to reduce the risk. It takes 2 weeks for swelling and bruising to resolve and to see what your final result will be. If you are not happy after 2 weeks, then I would follow up with your injector.

Facial fillers are injected to improve the volume, contour, and symmetry of the face. This may be performed with a sharp needle or a blunt microcannula. Anytime you poke the skin, there is a potential for bruising. Overall, the risk is low. Bruising may occur on one side of the face and not the other. With time, it will fade in 10-14 days. Bruising with Pain should be brought to the attention of your doctor immediately. Safety comes first.

Bruising is normal after filler in this area. In my office, we treat with the Excel V laser to make the bruise last only about 2 days. If no treatment, it can last up to 10 days. i wouldn't worry.

Bruising after filler or xeomin injection is a definite occurrence and is made worse by patients taking blood thinners within 10-14 days of their procedure. Since it's only been one day I'd advise my patient to gently massage the bruise and allow for resolution within 7-10 days. Covering with makeup is okay. Best wishes,
