African american rhinoplasty typically involves 4 different components. Some patients need them all, some only one or two. Here are the 4 components.
1.  Improvement of the bridge height with an implant.
2. Narrowing of the wide upper nose (bony part) with osteotomies.
3. Narrowing of the tip (Tip-plasty)
4. Narrowing of the nostrils (Alarplasty)

Ethnic rhinoplasty:
Since you are only looking for modest changes such as a thinner but not pointy tip and perhaps less wide-based nostrils, a rhinoplasty is a possible option. It would be more difficult if you were looking for more dramatic changes and a complete restructuring away from your ethnic origins. But since you are looking for modest changes it should be very doable with a traditional rhinoplasty.
