Congratulations on your BBL, ChristiannaFratus. Asymmetrical bruising after any surgery, but particularly liposuction, is not uncommon. Also, the perceived "spreading" of a bruise, providing there are not other symptoms like increased/new pain, bulging/ball/fullness, redness, increases warmth, fever, tightness, new/worsening swelling, etc., is also very normal. Bruising is due to leaked blood into the tissues during, or shortly after, the surgery (As opposed to a hematoma in which there is a continuos collection of blood or clot). The brusing may spread as the leaked blood within the tissue migrates into surrounding tissues, often due to gravity or pushed by garments/the girdle. Bruising that originates deeper may show up later as the bruising rises towarda the surface -- the color of this "new" bruising will vary, depending on what stage of blood breakdown/the body's absorption and processing is in. IDind a heating pad will help the bruising clear a little faster -- it does not prevent the bruising, nor does it halt any migration of the bruising. Your surgeon will be in the best position to determine wherher your bruising is normal/expected, or not, and what you should be on the look out for. Best of luck to you and a speedy, uneventful recovery! Dr. Ghafoori
