I am 23yrs old.I have IgA nephropathy and I am on peritoneal dialysis, 5h 45mins everyday.I am currently in the list for kidney transplant. Will it be better for me to get breast implants before transplant?or after?
Answer: Is it ok for patient with renal failure to get breast implants? Thank you for the question.Yes, plastic surgical procedures can be done safely for patients with a variety of different “medical conditions”. Careful evaluation and treatment of the medical condition is necessary prior to determining the appropriate candidates for the tummy tuck procedure. In your case this would be best done by your internist and nephrologist. These physicians know your situation best and would be best suited to discuss your suitability for the procedure and the potentially increased risks/ complications that you should consider very carefully. Once these doctors provide you "medical clearance", please make sure you are seeking consultation with well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons who preferably work with board-certified anesthesiologists in fully accredited surgery facilities. Then, careful communication between all the doctors involved will be helpful when it comes to providing you with optimal care. In your case specifically, I would recommend that you undergo the medically necessary procedure first; consider elective surgery once this has occurred and you have been medically stable for a period of time. Please make sure that you keep your overall health/safety as the first priority. Best wishes.

Answer: Breast Augmentation, Cosmetic surgery and Renal Failure Yes, it is possible to have a breast augmentation with implants or other cosmetic surgery if you have renal failure on peritoneal dialysis, if and only if, your nephrologist approves. The risk of surgery however is probably increased for peritoneal dialysis vs hemodialysis but in both cases you would have increased for infection and excessive bleeding and bruising. Your plastic surgeon and nephrologist together will determine the specific increase risks in your particular case and discuss whether you are a surgical candidate or not.

Answer: Is it ok for patient with renal failure to get breast implants? Based on your current medical condition I would not recommend an elective cosmetic procedure such as breast implants. Surgery creates significant from and the tissues and renal function must be adequate to handle the increased load of protein and other byproducts of the operation.

Answer: Would not recommend breast implants for patient in renal failure. From the description it sounds as though your health is somewhat unstable based on anticipated kidney transplant. I personally would not recommend breast augmentation.

Answer: No cosmetic surgery recommended Every surgeons going to have a different opinion. I am of the opinion that you do not need or should have breast implants at all. Your medical condition far outweighs the desire for implants.
