Is capsulectomy necessary with no signs of capsular contracture?

Question

I want to have my boobs redone after having two kids to fix asymmetry. I have no signs of capsular contracture but I do have bio cell recalled implants (no symptoms of ALCL or BII). My surgeon recommended a capsulectomy with lift and reimplant. Everything I see online talks about capsulectomys in relation to bii, alcl and casuals contracture. I’m going purely for cosmetics, & although my implants are recalled, Im asymptomatic. Necessary or no?? Can I refuse a capsulectomy or is it his choic

as long as you don't have capsular contracture or thick capsules, there is no need for their removal. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.

A lift is certainly easier without capsulectomy.  Unsure in your case. I recommend getting other opinions. You may be able to avoid the capsulectomy

You have the right to refuse a capsulectomy. A capsulectomy combined with a lift can cause more ischemia problems with possible nipple necrosis. You need to discuss this with your surgeon to reach a satisfactory conclusion.

First your own implants have not been recalled, but those unsold on the shelves were. Second, if you are having no issues with the capsules, they can remain. With Biocell implants, some capsule may still be removed with the implants since it sticks to the implants. I would suggest referring to your surgeon's best judgement.

No capsulectomy is necessary if your implant is not encapsulated. If you are unsure if you are encapsulated then you can ask your doctor for a script for an MRI which will or will not determine a capsule.

There’s no easy answer to your question.
Doing a complete capsulectomy without capsular contraction is very difficult.
It’s like tissue paper that’s glued to a big piece of meat and the surgeon has to pick it off piece by piece guy.
Capsule contraction has formed performing a capsulectomy becomes much more difficult.
 The chance of your doctor being able to remove every part of the capsule without a capsular contraction is unlikely but I don’t want to speak on behalf of other providers
If you in the future developed this type of lymphoma that you’d probably feel pretty foolish for having opted to not have the procedure.
Most likely you will not and there’s no evidence that says that we don’t have enough time correct course of action.
If you’re not happy with your doctors care or advice that seek opinion consultation through in person consultations with other plastic surgeons in your community.
