I seem to be finding a correlation for recover times and the need for wearing binders and compression bra with women who explant with drains and those who explant without drains. Is time spent in binder and bra different with each case?
Answer: Drains vs No Drains Hello, thank you for your question. I have attached a detail video that responds to your posted question, I hope this helps. In my practice, I utilize dual compression garment that minimizes the risk for complications, each surgeon is different in their practice, so make sure to find one that works best for your needs.

Answer: Recovery While each surgeon has her/his own opinion on how long compression should be used as well as if drains are needed, it will also vary by each patient's circumstances. A patient, for example, who had severe capsular contracture or ruptured implants may have different requirements than a patient with a simple explant. Your surgeon will advise what is best for you based on your planned procedure.

Answer: Binders and bras There can be many differences due to the size of the implants, the amount of breast tissue present, and how long the implants were in place and the thickness of the capsules. It is not "one size fits all" type of procedure. Your surgeon who has examined you will be the best one to ask what you need to do.

Answer: Postoperative protocol Dear Exquisite687809, I understand your concern. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors. It is best, however, that you follow your plastic surgeon's advice on post operative care management for a smooth and faster healing and recovery. Answer: Is time spent in binder and compression bra different with each case? Hello @Exquisite687809, thank you for your question. The time spent in a compression bra depends on several factors, including the doctor's surgical technique and the healing process. According to the clinical criteria is the level of compressio and the period of use. For my patients, the bra is generally worn for 3 months. It is important to remember that inadequate compression can generate more inflammation. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS.
