Breast Augmentation as well -- I will be 30 in October, and my transplant was done in 2010. I amcurrently healthy and required to take immunosupressants.
Answer: Elective surgery in the transplant population Transplant patients, just as any other patients, need to be optimized when considering elective cosmetic procedures. These procedures are by definition unnecessary and for that reason every precaution must be taken to ensure safety. With regards to your specific question, being a renal transplant patient does not necessarily rule out your candidacy for surgery. However, you should be in good health with good renal function. Labs will need to be reviewed. I would suggest renal/nephrology clearance for surgery. I would also encourage as conservative a surgical plan as possible so as to minimize risk (less procedures, less operating time, less physiologic stress). As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Answer: Is it safe to get a mommy makeover if I am a post kidney transplant patient? If you are otherwise healthy and your nephrologist and transplant surgeon clear you, you would be a candidate for the MM. For your safety, select a board certified plastic surgeon who operates in a certified surgery center. Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Candidate for surgery If you are overall healthy and your doctor clears you for surgery, you may consider a mommy makeover. You will be at an elevated risk and appropriate precautions will need to be taken. I would begin by speaking with your doctor about your desire for plastic surgery.

Answer: Is it safe to get a mommy makeover if I am a post kidney transplant patient? Thank you for the question. Having had a kidney transplant in the past is not an absolute contraindication to mommy makeover surgery. However you should carefully weigh the pros and cons of the procedure (as well as the potential risks and complications that MAY be increased in your situation) and consult with your medical doctors prior to proceeding with the surgery. I would have specific concerns about the use of immunosuppressants... Ultimately, I think it will likely be your decision whether the increased risk associated with your medical history and your current medications is worth the potential benefits of the procedures under consideration. I hope this helps.

Answer: Mommy makeover after kidney transplant That is an interesting question. Being on immune suppression medications does not 100% prevent you from having either a TT or breast augmentation. The amount and type of medications and your overall health would be a bigger picture to consider. It stands to reason that you may be at an elevated risk of complications given your physiology. Whether this risk is small or large or worth taking will be up to your doctors to determine and for you to decide in the end. If the decision is hard to make either by you or your doctors, I might encourage you to consider getting the breast augmentation first since it is a smaller surgery and with potentially more manageable complications as opposed to a TT and breast augmentation at the same time.Good luck on your mommy makeover journey.Dr. Remus Repta
