I am 74 and want to fix my neck, jowls and lower face including the vertical lines around my mouth. I am not a smoker and have never smoked. I am fair skinned and tend to scar badly on my trunk. I am told the facial area is different. Is this true?

Answer: Good candidate for a facelift and possibly perioral resurfacing. A full facelift would address the neck nicely and rejuvenate the face. It will help any parallel lines that are lateral to the corner of the mouth. In the oral region resurfacing might be beneficial done concurrently with the facelift.

Answer: Treatment of lines around the mouth Thank you for your question. A facelift would be the best procedure to improve the areas you are concerned with. This procedure would get rid of the jowls, improve your neck contour and take care of many lines and wrinkles around your face. Many doctors nowadays perform facelifts without the use of general anesthesia, so patient's age becomes far less of a factor. However, there is one area that would be resistant to treatment with a facelift. Small lines that runs vertically around your mouth (called "smoker's lines" even in people who don't smoke) could not be improved with this procedure. Pulling the skin does make these line look better, but also causes the mouth to look too stretched. If smoker's lines is a concern other treatments should be used to take care of them. Direct injection with fillers, judicial use of Botox or laser resurfacing would be some examples of such treatments. Any of this procedures could be used in conjunction with a facelift to make your face look years younger.Best wishes!Dr. Konstantin

Answer: Facial Rejuvenation I would recommend a formal face lift to correct your neck, jowls, marrionette lines and nasolabial folds. For the lines around your mouth, depending on the depth, some fat grafting can help as well as a TCA peel for more fine wrinkles. Best wishes!
