Great question - it depends. The credentials of your surgeon, anesthesiologist, and the surgery center are all important. I perform multiple procedures in our AAAASF accredited out-patient surgery center and we use only Board Certified Anesthesiologists. I prefer to perform the procedure with IV sedation as patients have a quicker recovery and the use of IV sedation reduces the risk of pulmonary embolism associated with General Anesthesia.Provided you are in good general health and the goals you are seeking are achievable in a single operative session then yes, this combination would be possible in the hands of an experienced board certified plastic surgeon.
Simple answer is Yes, but the surgery needs to be thoroughly evaluated by your plastic surgeon. A medical evaluation is imperative to make sure that you are a candidate for the lengthy procedures. An abdominoplasty/"tummy tuck" includes excision of the excess skin from the belly button to the pubic area. The resultant scar is within the bikini line. Also, the rectus muscle/fascia is tightened from the breastbone to the pubic area. Also, the oblique muscles/fascia can be tightened. This will tighten the anterior abdominal wall. A minimal amount of "love handle" can be treated with this procedure plus SAL (suction assisted liposculpture) can treat this problem. However, if there is a lot of fat in the "love handle", then I would do the SAL in the prone (face down) position and perform an abdominoplasty/ventral hernia. I use drains postop to remove the normal fluid buildup.Lastly, the gynecomastia can be performed following the abdominal/flank surgery. The degree of gynecomastia needs to be thoroughly evaluated so that the type of incision can be planned.Again, get your medical evaluation and good luck with your procedures.
In the right hands this is possible. If you are in good health and select a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in gynecomastia, it is possible to have all done at once. Choose your surgeon carefully. View many before and after pictures. Good luck!
Certainly combining these surgeries would be safe for most patients. The surgery would of course be done under general anaesthetic in an accredited hospital where you can stay for a couple of nights to recover afterwards. Most patients prefer combined procedures to allow just one recovery period, which is very reasonable where time away from work and other duties is not always easy or straight forward!
Doxiefiend You are describing what many of us like to call Daddy Do Over surgery. This is the male version of Mommy Makeover surgery and it is certainly reasonable to address your Gynecomastia, tummy and love handles all at the same operative time. Consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area for a full evaluation. Good luck.
Dear Doxiefiend, some plastic surgeons may want to split this into two operations depending on the time needed. Its best to see a board-certified plastic surgeon to determine your options and whether it would take too long, more than 4 hours, to do all.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Combining procedures is common and considered safe, but there is a limit. The procedures you are considering would be a good combination and should be able to be completed in one trip to the operating room. The first step is to schedule a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon near you for a consultation to determine if you are a candidate and to learn more.
Unfortunately there are no pictures. There are different type of tummy tuck procedure. With some of those procedures one can have a tummy tuck with liposuction of the love handles. With other tummy tuck procedures I would not recommend it. You would need a physical exam by a board certified plastic surgeon in order to determine what’s best for you. I invented a tummy tuck where patients typically wake up in no pain (please see the video on our page). Patients tend to have a very high level of self esteem and love showing off their new belly button and tummy in a bikini even into their late seventies! I hope you find this information useful. Please watch the enclosed video.
Thank you for your questions. Yes these three procedures can be performed on the same day. An in person consultation with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon is recommended.
Great question! As board certified plastic surgeons, our duty is to recommend procedures that we think will benefit you, while minimizing risks and the possibility of complications. That being said, your visit with your plastic surgeon will provide you with the best answer! Your surgeon will review your history, medications, family history, surgical history, etc. and will be able to evaluate you physically. After all of that, your surgeon will determine if these procedures, or combination of procedures, are right for you and if they should be performed all in one surgical visit. A good rule of thumb is that board certified plastic surgeons are encouraged to keep the total time for all procedures under 6 hours to optimize safety. Anything elective over 6 hours has higher risks of complications. It's best to go in person for your exam and discuss your options with your surgeon. Best of luck to you!
This question is best answered by your surgeon. She/He is most familiar with the details of your surgery and how you've been progressing through recovery. From the submitted photos you have a little bit of delayed healing but overall healing appropriately for nine days post op. Remember to...
Dear Dancergrl1981,Hello and thank you for your excellent question. If your medical problems are otherwise well-controlled, then you will not have an issue with having a tummy tuck. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and ...
There are definitely benefits to having an abdominoplasty other than a smaller waist and tighter abdomen!! This is a great question!! Having an abdominoplasty will definitely help with stress incontinence because it will assist in strengthening your core muscles which in turn help to strengthen...
