Do you have opinions on a tummy tuck with lipo after aortic aneurysm? (Photos)

Question

I’m 37 years old and mother of 2. 4 days After the birth of my second child I developed an aortic aneurysm that dissected. I did not have surgical intervention and since I get my regular CT scans now every 18 months. I manage my blood pressure very well. I have had a complete knee reconstructive surgery Since and did fine. I’m schedule for a tummy tuck with lipo on November 14th but I’m starting to get quite nervous. Any opinions about undergoing this surgery with my medical history?

Thank you for your pictures and questions. The pictures are dark and some additional photos would be helpful. However, if you are a surgical candidate, then you would likely be able to proceed if your regular doctor has given medical clearance. If you're scheduled already for surgery- this issue should have been addressed by your Plastic Surgeon long ago. If you have clearance and support from your medical team, including whoever is following the aneurysm then the determination should have been made by now and your safety examined.

The risk of aortic aneurysms has to do with their size (diameter) and the speed at which they might be expanding.  As long as your aneurysm size is stable on your CT scans, and your blood pressure is well controlled, the procedure can be done at a baseline level of risk.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question and photographs.  Assuming your AA has been medically optimized and size stable you should be able to safely undergo your TT and liposuction procedure.  I would of course discuss this with both your surgeon and anesthesiologist so that preparations can be made in anticipation of your operation.  Hope this helps.

 Tummy tuck procedures can be done safely for patients with a variety of different “medical conditions”. Careful evaluation and treatment of the medical condition is necessary prior to determining the appropriate candidates for the tummy tuck procedure.  In your case this would be best done by the physicians who know your situation best.  In other words, these doctors who know the specifics of your situation,  will be in the best position to advise you regarding your suitability for the procedure and the potentially increased risks/complications that you should consider.  
 
Once you have obtained "medical clearance", please make sure you are seeking consultation with  well experienced board-certified  plastic surgeons who preferably work with board-certified anesthesiologists  in fully accredited surgical facilities.

My 35 years experience has taught me that cosmetic surgery must be held to the highest safety standard. Based on your past history, I would strongly recommend that you NOT have any cosmetic surgery. Thank you for your question. As long as your aneurysm is stable and small and BP well controlled, you should be OK to undergo TT. Make sure your PS know about along with your anesthesiologist.

If your medical problems are otherwise well-controlled, then you will not have an issue with having a tummy tuck. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure.
