I recently turned 18 & my breasts are a cup size different. Would my breast still be growing or should I consult with a surgeon?

Breast asymmetry is not uncommon. At 18 years of age it is unlikely your breasts will continue to grow. Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon for an in person evalutation.

Dear Shire,             In theory, the breasts can keep growing up to age 22 or 24. However, since your breasts did not change in the last 5 years, we can safely assume that they will not grow further at this stage. So, if you want to enlarge your breasts and correct your asymmetry , that can be done easily with breasts implants. 34 full C cup size is natural, faminine and very attractive. Different implant volume in each breast will correct the assymetry. Breasts augmentation with implants is very satisfying for women and increases noticably their confidence and self esteem. To become symmetric 34 full C cup, you will need implant with a volume of 375 cc on the left side and 450 cc on the right side. Always, consult with board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive. When breasts stop growing is variable, and to some extent they continue to change as we age. If your breast size has been stable for several years, they have probably stopped growing. Weight changes, pregnancy and menopause can all cause breast size to vary.It is never too early to consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. At a minimum they can go over your options, and you can decide what, if anything to do at this time. Some women have asymmetric breasts and you should see a plastic surgeon to evaluate your anatomy.  If your breasts have not changed in size, they are likely matured and you can consider a breast augmentation with different implants to achieve symmetry.  

It sounds like you have probably reached breast maturity especially if you have noticed no growth over the past 2 years. Growth should be minimal if any at your age and the difference of your breast shape should not change either. I think if you are interested in augmentation both to enlarge and make breast more similar then it is time for you to seek out a board certified PS to help achieve your goals. They will be able to discuss uneven breast and what we can do to make them more similar such as using different size implants. Also the types of implants available to you at 18 yo which is saline only in my office and most PSs. You might choose to wait a few years to be able to have silicon implants as you have smaller breast that might show more ripples with saline implants.

As you are now 18 and you haven't experienced much change in the past several years, it would be reasonable to see a surgeon for 'reconstruction' if truly flat on one side.  Understand that having perfect symmetry in such scenarios is the exception and not the rule.  Discuss the options with your surgeon and choose what is best for you.

It is natural for women to have some asymmetries of their breasts, especially size. Your breasts can continue to grow even to the age of 22.. When the difference in volume is significant, the patient has not had any changes in size for a couple years, and it has been determined that she is physically mature, cosmetic improvement may be considered. Since you have recently started taking a birth control pill, you may experience some more breast growth. If only your left breast enlarges and your right still stays the same, it is unlikely that your symmetry will improve over more time. I would also consider a diagnosis of Poland Syndrome or pseudo-Poland Syndrome, which would benefit from cosmetic enhancement.A consultation and examination with a plastic surgeon will help you to determine the best option to achieve your results.

Time will tell if your breasts have matured.  Once they have not changed size/shape for period of time, then a plastic surgeon would consider surgery.  For many women this can be from 18 - 21.  Gaining weight will also cause your breasts to enlarge.

If your breasts have changed in the past year, you can't tell for certain if more growth will occur.  But if the breast size has been stable, chances are there will not be any more change.Sounds like the latter is the situation. Either way, I would suggest that this is a good time to consult with a plastic surgeon. Be prepared to consider whether you want one or both breasts increased in size.All the best. 

Thank you for your question.  The breast can continue to grow after age 18 but based on your history of early puberty you may have obtained your final breast growth.Correction of asymmetry often requires a lift on one side.  Since he had not posted photographs I cannot come and on this.I suggest you follow your primary care doctor's advice.  However there is no harm and you having a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who is experienced in breast surgery so that you can gain and opinion as to what will be required to achieve symmetry.If your nipple areola are symmetrical then all you may need is different sized implants.  However if the larger breast is lower than the smaller breast you may need a lift eventually.For more information on breast asymmetry please read the following link:
