Suction assisted lipectomy is just another term for liposuction. This can be done in conjunction with laser or ultrasound.
Suction assisted lipectomy is liposuction plain and simple. It is abreviated as SAL. Getting is done is easy and has a quick recovery.
There are several different types of liposuction: conventional, laser-assisted, radiofrequency-assisted, ultrasonic, etc. They all have one thing in common. In all of them, a suction device is used at some point to help remove the adipose tissue in the case of conventional liposuction or the "melted" adipose tissue with laser-assisted, radiofrequency assisted, etc. The conventional or original type of liposuction is also known as suction assisted liposuction.
SAL is just another name for liposuction. Liposuction allows you to have stubborn fat resistant to diet and exercise removed from unwanted areas and transferred to areas that can benefit from the added volume like the buttocks and hips. Unfortunately, liposuction would debulk the fat but would not address any skin laxity issues and is not to be considered a weight-loss program. The surgeon is much more important to the result than the type of liposuction chosen.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Suction assisted lipectomy is synonymous with liposuction. It is generally used to refer to traditional liposuction which only employs suction without additional energy. However, the term can be interchangeable. It is important to discuss with your surgeon the technique being employed so as to better understand your procedure. As always discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).
Suction assisted lipectomy is another way to say liposuction, the term “assisted” means that is possibly using an equipment that facilitates the extraction/removal of fat or uses some form of energy to help skin contracture. So assisted can be mechanical by using vibration (power assisted), laser (in any form), radio frequency or even ultrasound. Hope this helps
This is a term for traditional liposuction which uses suction to remove fat. For best results with liposuction, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contour and definition. This combination will give you the most toned result. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a hi definition physique expert. Best, Dr. Emer
Suction lipectomy is liposuction.Suction = negative pressureLipids = FatTome or tomo = to cut, and "ectomy" = to remove, or to cut out.Medical terminology is derived from Greek and Latin roots. Thus suction lipectomy is the removal of body fat using instruments attached to suction to cut and remove it, one small portion at a time.
Suction assisted lipectomy is just a generic but more formal and long winded term for liposuction. Lipectomy means removal of fat. Suction assisted means suctioning is used to remove the fat. In combination, you get "the removal of fat through suctioning". "Liposuction" is shorter in wording and means the exact same so "suction assisted lipectomy" = "liposuction". Neither specifies the exact method employed to accomplish the fat removal by suction. It can be ultrasonic assisted, VASER, PAL, etc.If you are seeking out liposuction, make sure that you consult with a reputable board certified plastic surgeon.Steven Turkeltaub, MD
Hi and thanks for your question. This is just a common term used to indicate liposuction. It doesn’t indicate what specific type of liposuction (ultrasound, pal, etc). Make sure to see a surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Pladtic Surgery if you’re considering this or any other cosmetic procedure. Good luck!Richard Chaffoo,MD,FACS,FICSTriple Board Certified Pladtic Surgeon
Is the scar tissue generating an abnormal appearance? Pictures or an exam would be helpful to make an assessment.
Thanks for the question. Generally, most patients can fly within 24 to 48 hours after liposuction surgery. However, car or airplane travel should be avoided to prevent the risk of blood clots in the legs. I wish you all the best.
