I had HT 8 weeks ago, have shed most of my hair. Now I see few tiny hair poking through, not sure this is good sign or should I expect more at this stage? Also I underwent FUT procedure, does it mean I will have slower growth compared to FUE?

Answer: Procedure does not determine the time of growth Thank you for your question. I carry out both FUE and FUT hair transplant and my preference is FUT. Both treatment options can successfully give you a desired result. The difference between the two is mainly with the donor site. With FUE one of the problems is that you have a greater number of non viable grafts compared to FUT. FUT also enables great multiple follicles compared to FUE. Now, with respect to hair growth. The follicles are harvested and can be in any part of their growth cycle which could be the growth phase or the resting phase or the shedding phase. The majority of my patients are advised that they will not get the final result till atleast 18 months to 2 years. In this time you will notice some shedding and some growth. But if you had a sufficient number of grafts implanted then you should exect a very good return. Just be patient and dont worry. * weeks is too early and you will not have anywhere near the number of follicles coming through that you will by 2 years. The growth period of the hair is dependent on the phase of hair follicle and not hte method used to extract it. I hope this is helpful for you BWRohit Seth Plastic, reconstructive, aesthetic and hair transplant surgery

Answer: How Much Growth? Your grafted hairs usually start to shed 10-14 days after surgery and will continue to do so up until 8-10 weeks after. Therefore, you should expect to see little to no growth within the first 0-3 months of your surgery. After 3 months you should expect to see some hairs that will begin to sprout. It is strongly recommended to use to Rogaine twice daily starting 2 weeks after your surgery to help your grafts grow faster. If your scalp is sensitive, you can try using it once daily for 3 days a week. In terms of the two procedures, there is no difference in growth rate between FUE & FUT however the medical recovery time for FUE is generally shorter.

Answer: Questions to ask before a hair transplant. These questions really should have been discussed with your hair restoration doctor before you underwent the procedure. Before having a hair restoration you should fully know the differences between FUE and FUT, the growth timeline, info regarding shedding and the other intricacies of a hair restoration. At two months you should not expect any growth. Early growth has just started at the 3 month mark. At 6 months you will be at only about 50% growth, at 12 months you will be at roughly 90% growth. Remain patient and continue to follow your doctors post op care instructions.
