1 week rhinoplasty : putting pressure on the nose to make it straight, what are you thoughts?

It is not unusual for the nose to not appear straight in the early postoperative period.  Taping and pressure can both help in modifying the healing process to straighten the nose.

There can be a tremendous amount of swelling after a rhinoplasty, especially after the cast is removed. Unfortunately, even the nose does not swell the same on one side as it can on the other and asymmetry during the healing period is incredibly common. Taping is a very common and effective technique to encourage the swelling to stay to a minimum as prolonged swelling leads to scar tissue if not adequately addressed. This is why so many rhinoplasty surgeons insist on icing as much as possible after surgery, avoiding activity and food that makes your nose swell and staying out of the sun. Scar tissue is also incredibly unpredictable, and once it starts to form can pull cartilage. 
Cartilage and bone have "memory" and if you have very strong nasal bones or stiff cartilage, they can have a tendency to want to revert to their original position. Pushing nasal bones inward can help to maintain their new position as well. 

Taping is frequently used after rhinoplasty to help control swelling and sometimes some irregularities. I'm not sure how effective it is to improve nasal deviation though. I would follow your surgeon's postoperative regimen closely and never be afraid to ask dumb questions. I give my personal cell phone number to my patients in order to clarify any small details of the instructions when they are at home and at any time.
