We have been using Kybella to dissolve the fat in jowls as an off-label use and it works great. It helps define the jawline and in combination with fillers along the jawline can make people look both younger and thinner by sharpening the jawline. As a trainer for Kybella, I have found it to be a great permanent solution for submental fat (under the chin) and fabulous in helping reduce jowls for many patients.
Kybella is good for fat under the chin and won't make the jowls appear larger. Kybella take 1-3 treatments every 6 weeks. Patient will develop swelling and possible bruising after each injection that may last a few days. The benefit of Kybella is each treatment is quick and completed in the office. However, some patients need more than one treatment to get desired results. Hope this helps.
Kybella is being used for the jowls and is "off label." There can be an effect on the nerve that cause the corner of your mouth to turn up when you smile if injected too close to the nerve. The nerve function will improve over time. Kybella injected in the jowls is not for everyone. I recommend being evaluated by a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options.
I don't recommend Kybella for jowls. A combination approach will give the most improvement. I recommend fillers for the jowls themselves but also lifting around the mouth and cheeks to build underlying anatomical support. In our practice we combine sculptra with other fillers "layered" on top and lasers, rf treatments, J Plasma and peels to get the most conservative natural look. Please see a facial sculpting expert. Kybella is FDA cleared for the fat under the chin. When the chin area is treated, this should not lead to any enlargement of the jowl area. With that being said, there has been presentations at major meetings where clinicians are utilizing it, "off label" for areas such as the jowls. There is a technique utilized that helps to minimize complications in this area. When performed in this manner, it can give exceptional results with minimal dosage amounts. Other areas where Kybella have been used "off label" are for bra fat and small pockets of fat in the abdominal area and leg area.
This is difficult to answer without pictures. Kybella is good for removing stubborn areas of fat, but lacks body shaping. For best results, I recommend a hi definition procedure like a VASER liposuction revision. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermiRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, s...
For unique cases where a variety of modalities could be used to treat the condition, I would suggest an in-person or virtual consultation to develop a custom and effective treatment plan. It is difficult to precisely define the best option without collecting the same information. I suggest...
Swelling is an expected part of the fat dissolving injection treatment process, in fact I always tell people that if “it’s not swelling, the treatment isn’t working”! Some people experience the swelling for a longer period of time than others but you are still in the early period of your tr...
