I got Kybella done about a year ago. Now my face is too gaunt and I appear not healthy(too thin). Can I add fat back under chin?

I want to reverse my treatment, but unfortunately Kybella is permanent. I want to return to baseline and was hoping for some advice from either a board certified dermatologist or a plastic surgeon

Hi Mike, Thanks for the question.  Sorry to hear about your disappointment, its a really great tool to use but if you do not have good skin quality (poor elasticity) than you can get the result you were talking about.  I would have loved to see a photo but there are options that can be used to correct this.  Certain injectables can be helpful and sometimes surgery is needed.  I highly recommend you consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon.  Best of luck.

I treat a great deal of patients whose main complaint is that their face looks too gaunt after losing weight.  There are a few options that work well.  Sculptra is one of my favorite treatments to help with this as it lays down a great collagen surface and provides support to the face. Other fillers such as Hyaluronic acid based products such as Juvederm Voluma and Restylane Lyft work very well.  Please consult an expert in facial contouring for the best cosmetic results. Hi MikeJ7432,Photos would have helped. Kybella is supposed to just remove submental fat and it should not make you look gaunt. You can discuss the option of Sculptra and fillers to replace some of the fat lost.It's true that the fat loss is permanent-but this is only for the fat that was dissolves. If you gain weight, the remaining fat cells will take up some of the fat and fill out.All the best, Justin Harper, M.D.
