it’s been two weeks since my second round of kybella. they were spaced six weeks apart. i had it done by a dermatologist that was listed on the kybella website. i’m still swollen and my doctor told me not to worry. is it possible that i was incorrectly injected? is it possible that i won’t return to my baseline?
Answer: Kybella This is a good question but in our office's experience we can see that patients may be swollen up to 3 weeks. However, they usually resolve in the first 2 weeks. I recommend that you speak to the treating dermatologist to make sure they know that you are concerned. If it is 3 weeks and there is still some swelling I would recommend that you return to the dermatologist for possible management as needed. All the best!

Answer: You are still in the early period of your treatment Swelling is an expected part of the fat dissolving injection treatment process, in fact I always tell people that if “it’s not swelling, the treatment isn’t working”! Some people experience the swelling for a longer period of time than others but you are still in the early period of your treatment and should start to experience results soon.

Answer: Kybella Kybella takes a series of three sessions and from 1-2 vials per treatment depending the amount of fat that is present. Every session should be 4-6 weeks apart. Downtime from Kybella includes swelling, bruising, hot to the touch, tenderness, numbness, and it can last up to 6 weeks, it may vary individually. Best, Alex Khadavi MD

Answer: Kybella -- second round of 2 vials The standard care with Kybella has switched over time from 2 vials to 4 vials in one session. Most patients require a additional treatments-- sometimes even three treatments with the 4 vials. The results are quicker and more dramatic with the additional vials. I usually wait about 8 weeks between sessions. But, doing it a week or so in each direction should be fine. Make sure to follow the directions of taking antihistamines before your treatment. It helps reduce the swelling and still allow for great immune response. Enjoy your results! Dr. Onir

Answer: Kybella and swelling Thanks for the question and I appreciate your concern. Unfortunately, you are really early in the healing process and this can be completely normal. You should more than return to baseline, i.e. your results should show an appreciable decrease of fat in that area. Please be patient. If there is swelling and firmness I would recommend warm compresses and massaging the area nightly. It takes 12 weeks after each treatment to see the results. Best of luck. IF you are still not happy with the results I would seek consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
