Kybella, Coolsculpting, or Liposuction? (Photo)

Question

I am a 25 year-old with some slight genetic chin fat that does not respond significantly to diet/exercise. I would like to have a more defined profile with hopefully little to no scarring or downtime. I am overall healthy, and in a normal weight range (B.M.I of 23). What procedure would I see the best results from?

All of the options are good, but liposuction does involve a tiny scar with a few days of downtime.  From your photos, it looks like Kybella might be the way to go as Coolsculpting requires excess skin to form a good seal.  You don't appear to have a ton of excess skin, just a little excess fat.  Kybella is great!  It may take several sessions to get your desired results, but the "downtime" is only a few days of swelling with no scars at all.

The nice thing is that you can’t go wrong with either Kybella, CoolSculpting, or Liposuction for chin contouring. All of them work fabulously. You choose the best one based on your needs. If you want immediate results, though with a little downtime and a compression bandage, go for liposuction. If you’re willing to wait, choose a series of either CoolMini or Kybella. Then it comes down to a choice of whether you’d prefer cold therapy or deoxycholic acid injections. Consulting a board-certified dermatologist will help you choose the best method for your needs.

Given your age, skin quality, and amount of submental fullness you would benefit from either Kybella or  liposuction. They will both give you permanent fat removal and a more defined jawline. Kybella will require more than one treatment and will have swelling associated with the procedure for 4-5 days after the first treatment. Subsequent treatments will have less swelling and therefore less downtime. The procedure is minimally invasive and no compression neck wraps are required. Liposuction is more invasive, has more downtime, requires compression neck garments, but typicallly requires only one treatment session. Both Kybella or neck liposuction are good options and will improve the double chin. It depends on your lifestyle and personality which would be better for you. 
Kybella is best for patients that:
1)  Do not want surgery 
2)  Are not surgical candidates 
3)  Not willing to wear a compression dressing around the face for 1 week 
4)  Patient-  The results of Kybella will take months
Kybella take 1-3 treatments every 6 weeks.  Patient will develop swelling and possible bruising after each injection that may last a few days.  The benefit of Kybella is each treatment is quick and completed in the office. However, some patients need more than one treatment to get desired results. 
Neck Liposuction is best for patients that:
1)  Want a single treatment 
2)  One recovery time-  Downtime for neck liposuction require wearing a wrap around face for 1 week. 3)  Less painful 
4)  Quicker results 
5)  Cost is a concern
Neck liposuction is a quick surgical procedure that can be complete while the patient is awake.  It cost around the same price a Kybella and can be less in patients with heavier necks.  The single recovery of neck liposuction may be a better option for some patients.

Thank you for your question! You may need a combination of all three. I would start with Kybella first and see if you are happy with the results from that. If Kybella works and you maintain your current weight, no further treatment should be needed. You can always move on to fat freezing if you're not completely satisfied with the results of Kybella. Ultimately, an office visit would be needed and your physician can recommend the best treatment for you based on your goals.

All three choices are great options to reduce the stubborn area of fat under the chin. I have seen the best results using a combination of Kybella and Coolsculpting because both these technologies eliminate the fat cells permanently. Kybella is about a 20 to 30 minute procedure that can cause redness and swelling for up to 5 days. Coolsculpting using the CoolMini is a 45 minute procedure that has absolutely no downtime. After achieving your goal using these methods there are no maintenance treatments necessary because the fat cells have been permanently destroyed. I recommend consulting with a board-certified dermatologist to do a comprehensive exam of the area in order to determine the best treatment plan for you

It is hard to determine the best treatment option without seeing you in person, but based on your photos and what you are looking for (minimal scarring and downtime), Kybella or CoolSculpting will probably be your best options. Both treatments are effective in getting rid of submental fat more commonly known as double chin. The better treatment option for you can really only be determined at an in-person consultation. I would advise seeing a provider that offers all three treatments so that you are sure you are getting a recommendation on which treatment is best for you and not just being offered what they have. I have seen excellent results with all three treatments, so I'm sure you will be happy with the outcome whichever route you take. Best of luck!

Liposuction more than likely will remove more fat, give you a smoother result versus the others and probably a quicker recovery versus Kybella. Kybella injections dissolves fat but initially you swell up and you may develop some temporary knots underneath your chin. This procedure needs to be repeated. Coolsculpting more than likely will not give you as smooth as results than liposuction, requires multiple treatments and a VERY small percent of patients may experience some temporary pain. Hello.Kybella will be the best treatment option. It has been developed to actually get rid of that stubborn double chin. It mostly takes a couple of treatments to achieve the desired look, but this varies on every patient. The results are pretty satisfying.

I think the first thing you need to decide is whether you are willing to undergo surgery. If the answer is yes, then submental liposuction will give you the best result. However, if you are not willing to undergo surgery, then I would consider Kybella.
