Why is my Appetite Gone After Having a Tummy Tuck? Seems Like I Can Eat Once a Day and Be Full.

All, I had my TT April 19th 2013, Im a bit concerned because am not eating like I used to. Every since I came home from the hospital I have found myself eating breakfast ( coffee and toast ) and feel full until about 5pm, for some reason am not hungry but I do drink a lot of water ( vitamin water ) with my medicine...To add to it, I have lost not only 7 but 8 lbs so far....My husband thinks am dieting of some kind, but am not! I am just not hungry through the day.

Some patients experience appetite change and bloating after tummy tuck.  The tightening of the muscles most likely affect the position of your stomach and intestines intra-abominally.  If you have any predisposition to intestinal issues such as irritable bowel syndrome, lactose intolerance, or a haital hernia, it is not inconcievable that the muscle tightening can affect your gastrointestinal tract. Fortunately most of these symptoms resolve with time.  If they do not, consult with your Plastic Surgeon and possible a Gastroenterologist for a more thorough evaluation.  All the best.

is not unusual and the theory behind it has been explained by the other doctors. Focus on maintaining your nutrition and taking vitamins as needed and enjoy the decreased appetite as your normal pangs will return to some degree the more you heal.

Decrease appetite after surgery is not unusual.  Try to maintain your diet and eat smaller amounts and drink plenty of fluids.

The compression of the abdominal contents can give a sensation of satiety, and reduce appetite, especially early on with swelling, not unlike a temporary lap band. This usually resolves within several days or a couple of weeks. Hopefully this accompanies a nice outcome.
