Is a cough after breast augmentation related to the surgery?

Having a cough for 19 days after breast augmentation is not common.  Recommend that you schedule an in-office appointment with your PCP or PS to determine the source of your cough.

Hi lulisha, thanks for your question. The short answer is no, it is not common to experience a cough almost 3 weeks after breast augmentation. I would recommend being evaluated by your Plastic Surgeon and/or Primary Care physician, so that they can perform a thorough physical examination, ensure healing is progressing as expected, and help discover the cause of your cough. Sometimes you can get small areas of "lung collapse" called atelectasis that may be accompanied by fever in the first few days. You can do an incentive spirometer, or blowing up balloons to open up your lungs. This can also be because of smoking. Btw, people who quit smoking because of plastic surgery, increase their lifespan by years and decades....i.e. plastic surgery can save lives. If your cough is not settled or gets worse, you could be getting a lung infection / pneumonia, and may need antibiotics. We are always happy to see any and all patients.
